from the Manitoulin West Recorder
Gore Bay-The
Town of Gore Bay is now a member of the
Manitoulin Living Project.
“If we tried to do $300 in advertising
for Gore Bay you know how far that would
go,” stated Gore Bay Mayor Joyce Foster
at a council meeting last week. “By
providing $300 to join Manitoulin Living
for the advertising they do is just
phenomenal.”
Ms. Foster pointed out that the town’s
Economic Development Committee had
recommended the town participate in MLP
at a cost of $300 per year. She
attended a recent meeting of the MLP
board, and “we were presented with some
very interesting statistics. They have
a very good website, and in one month it
had 2,747 hits.”
“They also provided an outline on the
number of requests they receive for
information packages on Manitoulin, and
they come from all over, including
Asia,” said Ms. Foster. “One
businessperson said they have had eight
direct contacts from the US for
information through the website.”
Ms. Foster pointed out the MLP marketing
program involves not only the website,
but also television and other
multi-media advertising, brochures, and
billboards on highways, including
several areas in Southern Ontario, for
example.
“It was the committee’s recommendation
to join the (MLP) for $300 for full
membership,” added Ms. Foster, prior to
council passing a motion to this effect.
